The library at Ark Globe Academy is open to all students Monday to Friday from 8am - 5pm. Apart from its main function as Resource Centre, where the students can read, borrow books, complete their homework and do research on the computers, the library also serves as a safe environment for all students who feel the need to retreat to a quiet and friendly place.
The Accelerated Reader programme is one of our focus points in the library. All year 7-9 students have the unique opportunity of benefiting from weekly library lessons so that we can make sure they are provided with the time and resources to do some independent as well as guided reading. As part of this literacy program, they also have the chance to take a quiz on the computers on the books they read and receive their results immediately. This form of instant feedback allows the students to take ownership of their own reading progress.
Ark Globe Academy Primary visits the library by arrangement between the class teacher and the librarian.
The library is open to secondary students at the following times:
- Before school from 08:00am–08:25am
- Break time from 10:45-11:00am
- Lunchtime from 13:00–13:35
- After school from 15:30–17:00
- Homework club until 5.00pm every Wednesday
Clubs in the library
Creative Writing - Monday lunchtime
The Creative Writing club gives students who aspire to be writers or who simply enjoy putting their thoughts on paper the opportunity to meet to read their work and discuss writing techniques.
Quiet lunchtime - Wednesday lunchtime
If our students would like a quiet place to read or study, they should come to the library on Wednesday lunchtime. At this time, only quiet, individual activities are allowed. No need to book, just turn up.
Homework Club - Wednesday 3.30 – 5.00pm
One of the most popular times in the library is Wednesday after school, between 3.30pm and 5.00pm. A team from XLP, a third party organisation come to conduct Homework Club - as the title says, the main purpose of which is to help students complete their homework. Once that is covered, the students also have the opportunity to engage in educational games and activities.
Book Club is a lovely gathering of students and teachers passionate about reading. Once a term the club members choose a Classic as their book of choice. After choosing a book to read each week (or every two weeks, depending on the book) they meet and discuss it. More information will be here soon.
Drawing Club takes places during lunchtimes, but it hasn't yet started for 2017-2018. More information will be here soon.
