Students show their forte with charity music CD
Three budding music students at Ark Globe Academy are launching a CD to raise money for the charity Youth Music which helps other young people make music.
The CD, ‘Global Music’ will be officially launched at the academy on 19 January 2015 and showcases music composed by Year 11 students. Each student was asked to create music for either a horror, romantic, adventure or science fiction movie. BTEC music students David Olubowale, Daniel Main and Abdullahi Hassan came up with the idea as part of their course at the academy.
Youth Music provides more than 90,000 young people with the opportunity to make music every year, helping them to overcome the challenges they face in their lives.
David, Year 11, said: “Choosing Youth Music as the charity was important to me because it felt like I was giving something back to the world of music which has become my passion. Picking the tracks for the CD was hard at first because there were so many that were worthy, but in the end the selection had to showcase the very best of our work. This project has taught me how to promote and deliver a product to the public. I have also learned the importance of working with a team of people successfully to make sure the project is of the best quality.”
Mr Whitehead, Head of Music said: “This is such a fantastic opportunity for the Year 11 BTEC students to not only share their fantastic compositions with the world, but also for them to contribute positively to the community. David, Daniel and Abdullahi are all working extremely hard to typify the school ethos of being leaders within their community and I am really excited to purchase my copy.”
Youth Music said: "We want to say a big thank you to David, Daniel and Abdullahi for their support, and that of their fellow pupils and teachers. Money raised from sales of the album will help us support life-changing music-making projects around the country, helping young to overcome the challenges they face in their lives, develop their creative and social skills and improve their wellbeing."
The CD is available to purchase for £1 from btec2014.bandcamp.com
