Students display their mathematical talents

Students from across the academy have been displaying their mathematical talents in competitions which saw them flourishing in the National Maths Challenge and the Ark Schools Maths Wrangle.

A number of students from years 7 - 10 competed in the National Maths Challenge which involved the students answering 25 multiple choice questions in one hour that required a variety of mathematical problem solving skills. To be successful in this challenge the students really had to think outside the box and quickly in order to answer them all in time. Of all the students across the country that compete in the challenge, the top 40% receive an award of bronze, silver or gold. The top 6% nationally achieve gold, 14% - silver, and 20% bronze. We are very proud that two of our students, Salama and Philip, both in year 8, achieved a gold award and Shameika in year 7 who achieved bronze. These are all fantastic achievements and we are very proud of them.

More recently, we also won the Ark Schools Mega Maths Wrangle which officially makes our students the best mathematicians in the Ark Schools network. Our secondary team came first against a tough field and the primary team came second which highlights the talents of our students from across the academy. Throughout the one day competition, students competed in a wide variety of extreme maths challenges which displayed their mathematical talents but more notably, the teams were also awarded bonus cards by Bank of America volunteers for Kindness, Team Work, Resilience and Creativity. At the end of the day, our students were especially commended for winning a significant number of these bonus cards which is a real testament to our students' fantastic character!

Congratulations to all students who took part in the competitions!
