Actress Lesley Sharp leads a Q&A session for students

Actress Lesley Sharp inspired Year 11 GCSE drama students at Globe Academy on Tuesday by leading a Q&A session based on 'A Taste of Honey', the play she is currently starring in at the National Theatre and the students are currently rehearsing for their GCSE exams.

Lesley shared her experience and insight into the characters to help the students relate to the play and bring it to life. The students also had the opportunity to read through their lines with the actress.

Tuesday's visit builds on the students' recent trip to see Sharp in the production. Monique, Year 11, said after seeing Sharp in the play: ‘The actress playing Helen was fabulous'.

Davor Golub, Learning Director, Performance said: 'The students will be performing scenes from this play for their final performance examination. This workshop with Lesley will be of huge benefit to them and allowed them to explore in detail how she created her characterisation. This will undoubtedly have an extremely positive impact on their exam performance.'

Lesley reinforced the importance of the students learning their lines, understanding the world their characters are from to help them engage with them and suggested listening to music from the era to help them get into character.

Matt Jones, Principal, said: ‘We are delighted to welcome actor Lesley Sharp to Globe Academy. This is a fantastic opportunity for our Year 11s to talk to the leading actor of a play they have recently seen at the theatre. I have no doubt that Lesley will inspire and motivate our Year 11s in achieving their own aspirations’.

Lesley Sharp has previously starred in the television series 'Clocking Off' and 'Scott & Bailey' and her film credits include 'The Full Monty' and 'Vera Drake'.
